Judge’s  Commentary:

“I could not put this book down. Ms. McGuinn’s telling of the story from the daughter and the mother’s point of view was wonderful. The story of the mother and daughter getting to know each other through each of their writings was a nice touch… There’s not anything that I can think of that I would change.”

Running Away is a novel. In the first chapter, Maggie is making concrete plans to run away—far away. “This is my last night in this house.” In the alternating chapters, her mother is planning a nice family weekend, now that Maggie’s behavior has improved. She doesn’t realize her daughter has run away until Maggie doesn’t return from her weekend camping trip. By then, Maggie has entered a new world and her life is in danger.
